Paris, the capital city of France is known as the Fashion capital of the World. Also known as the City of Love and Lights, there are numerous places in the city which one can never afford to miss.
One such place is Musee du Louvre or The Louvre Museum or officially Grand Louvre. There are 153 museums in total in the city of Paris but The Louvre is over and above all the museums and it creates an everlasting impression in the minds of the visitors.

Being one of the grandest museums in the world, it is also the most visited art museum in the world with around 8 millions visitors every year. The museum has almost 35,000 artifacts which constitute a collection of famous art work - painting, drawings, archaeological findings and pop culture and a place displaying the royal collection. Housed in the Louvre Palace, The Louvre is situated on the Right Bank of the Seine and displays the nation's masterpieces.
The museum which marked its opening in August 1793 is most popular for housing the painting of Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. The museum is in a form of a rectangular structure and the Sully Wing which is another striking feature of the Palace is to the east of The Grand Louvre. The Mona Lisa painting is placed in the Sully Wing along the famous Venus de Milo, which is a marble statue of the Roman goddess of Love, Venus. Amongst the collections the Grand Louvre houses Egyptian antiquities, Near Eastern Antiquities, Islamic art, Decorative Arts, Sculptures, Greek, Etruscan and Roman displays.
At the main entrance to the museum there is a shopping mall, Carousel du Louvre. There is a famous place, Tuileries Gardens nearby the museum which houses the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume. The famous Waterlily paintings by Monet can also be found at Orangerie, which is just parallel to Jeu de Paume. The Louvre also has amenities and aids to provide a comfortable tour of the museum which includes audio guides, media center and floor plans.
The visit to the museum is free of cost on the first Sunday of every month. There is a combined ticket available of €14 which grants the access to the permanent collections in the Louvre and temporary collection in the Musee Eugene Delacroix. The best part is that the use of cameras and video recorded is not prohibited inside the museum. It is advisable to hire a tour guide who would help in showing all the important scriptures of the museum. You can reach the museum by metro which has Palais-Royal-Musée du Louvre station next to the building. The museum also provides underground parking for people travelling by car. The parking times are 7 a.m to 11 p.m.
